İş Sanat is closing the classical concert series with a very special event. Celebrating his 65th birthday this year, the living legend of cello Mischa Maisky comes together with his daughter Lily Maisky, his son Sascha Maisky as well as Hungarian Chamber Orchestra under the leadership of Kristóf Baráti, winner of the 2010 International Paganini Violin Competition in Moscow. Lauded by Rostropovich as "...one of the most outstanding talents of the younger generation of cellists. His playing combines poetry and exquisite delicacy with great temperament and brilliant technique.", Mischa Maisky made well over 30 recordings with such orchestras as Vienna and Berlin Philharmonic, London Symphony, Israel Philharmonic, Orchestre de Paris, Orpheus und Chamber Orchestra of Europe and others during the last 25 years. His recordings have enjoyed world-wide critical acclaim and have been awarded five times the prestigious Record Academy Prize in Tokyo, three times Echo Deutscher Schallplattenpreis, Grand Prix du Disque in Paris and Diapason d’Or of the Year as well as Grammy nominations. Maisky has the distinction of being the only cellist in the world to have studied with both Mstislav Rostropovich and Gregor Piatigorsky. One of the highlights in his career was the year 2000 - it was mainly devoted to a world-wide Bach tour which included over 100 concerts and in order to express his deep admiration for this great composer, Maisky has recorded Bach's Solo Suites for the third time.

İş Sanat bears witness to the birth of a world class contemporary Ballet Company, devoted to artistic experimentation. L.A Dance Project is a program of events founded by renowned choreographer and dancer Benjamin Millepied. Instead of creating a traditional company, Millepied formed an “art collective,” bringing together some of his longtime friends and associates including composer Nico Muhly, art consultant Matthieu Humery, producer Charles Fabius and film producer Dimitri Chamblas. L.A Dance Project's goal is to create new work and to revive seminal collaborations from the past and collaborate with writers, artists and arts institutions in Los Angeles. Programs are including full-length evenings in traditional theater venues as well as various modular performances in non-traditional environments. Praised by critics for stylishness and craft of his ballets, Millepied shows exceptional talent in staging complex movements with many bodies. He has produced as many as 130 shows and choreographic commissions from top-tier ballet troupes soon followed by Paris Opera Ballet, Russia's famed Mariinsky Ballet, American Ballet Theatre, among others. A highly sought-after choreographer, Millepied also leapt into the celebrity stratosphere when he started dating actress Natalie Portman, whom he met while working on the Darren Aronofsky movie “Black Swan.” In 2010, he was made Chevalier in the Order of Arts and Letters by the French Ministry of Culture.

The Shining Stars series of İş Sanat is closing with cellist Şemsa İdil Ural this season. Beginning her musical studies at the age of 5 at Istanbul University State Conservatory and accepted to the violoncello class of Prof. Reşit Erzin at 7, Şemsa İdil Ural gave her first concert at the Terakki Foundation Schools’ concert hall when she was 12. She was an active participant in the violoncello master classes of Prof. Maria Kliegel and Prof. Clauss Kangiesser at Ayvalık International Music Academy and Prof. Anna Maria Ganter Hess at Vivace Music Academy. She also got the chance to study with Prof. Alexander Rudin. Despite her acceptance to Bilkent University Faculty of Music and Performing Arts with a full scholarship in 2004, Ural choose to resume her studies at Istanbul University State Conservatory with Prof. Eldar İskenderov whom Mstislav Rostropovich praised highly. Giving many recitals with her duo partner pianist Alpay E. Vural she performed in orchestras such as Şişli Symphony, Kocaeli University Chamber Orchestra, Cemal Reşit Rey Symphony and particularly Istanbul University State Conservatory Symphony. She also took part in Noesis ensemble at the Young Artists Festival.

When talents as formidable as Michel Camilo and Tomatito get together to make music this is an event. These two distinct voices from different musical worlds reunite on Spain Forever, a scintillating musical conversation between two masters. Camilo, a brilliant pianist and prolific composer, is renowned for combining rich jazz harmonies with the Caribbean flavors and rhythms of his native Dominican Republic. Discovered at an early age by Paco de Lucía, Tomatito is the premier flamenco guitarist of his generation and has accompanied Spain's greatest flamenco singers including the legendary Camarón de la Isla. Navigating the boundaries of jazz and flamenco, Camilo and Tomatito create an experience that is both unique and unforgettable. With over 40 concerts performed together by the summer of 1999, a studio album was inevitable, so they to record the 2000 Latin Grammy® Award winning album Spain. After their wonderful reunion at the North Sea Jazz Festival In 2005, they both agreed it was time to explore the second chapter of their shared musical adventure and recorded Spain Again which awarded the Premio de la Música 2008 for Best Jazz Album. The last project of the duo, Spain Forever marks the reunion of two good friends who decided to play together 40 concerts in 15 different countries, see how far they could take it and see how much they could discover about themselves.

Iş Sanat is closing its 13th season with Buika, the voice of passionate love. Captivating the audiences and critics alike around the world with her love songs, “The Queen of Flamenco” will give a splendid symphonic concert accompanied by Istanbul Opera Orchestra. As the New York Times calls her unique blend of flamenco, jazz, soul and blues, “luminous…magnificent…superb!”, Buika is rapidly being recognized as one of the most dynamic, individualistic performers in contemporary vocal jazz. Blending jazz, funk, flamenco, gypsy rumba, Afro-Cuban rhythms, copla and new soul in a refined and deep way thanks to her origins extending to Africa enriched with the Spanish culture, her 2009 collaboration with Chucho Valdés, El Ultimo Trago, won Buika her first Latin Grammy award for “Best Traditional Tropical Album.” Winner of Premio de la Música, Spain’s answer to the Grammies, for Best Produced Album with her second album Mi Niña Lola, Buika’s latest release is En Mi Piel, an exhaustive two-disc compilation that showcased her breathtaking diversity and range—and her development as a total artist. Voted one of world’s “50 Great Voices” by NPR, Buika will share her most intimate love songs in this final event of İş Sanat this season. The orchestra will perform under the baton of Toni Cuenca at this special night.
