Veysel Şatıroğlu (1894-1973) was born in the Sivrialan village of Sivas. Having lost his sight while a child, his interest in music started with a broken bağlama, a three-stringed folk instrument, his father gave him for passing time. Eventually, he evolved to become the most famous and perfect folk poets of the Republican period.
“… Veysel thinks and talks the way people do. This is where new Turkish poets from different backgrounds and styles meet the folk poetry and Veysel. Being a part of people and being oneself... Talking in Turkish and in one’s own language. Merging without losing oneself and joining the crowd.” Sabahattin Eyuboğlu
“I’m On A Long And Narrow Road” presents the poems and composed works of Âşık Veysel in a modern setting.
