Melih Cevdet Anday who passed away in 2002 was one of the founders of our modern poetry. After his first poem “Ukde” was published in Varlık magazine in 1936, he became involced in the “Strangers” movement together with Orhan Veli and Oktay Rifat, and his ouvre went on reflecting a continuous change in the years to follow. Particularly developing a philosophical poetry in his late years, Anday focused on mythological subjects in his works as well. The poems in this reciting concentrate on the togetherness of past and present, a theme which Anday uses quite often in his works.
