The roots of Budapest Ballet goes back to the Kropf Dance Ensemble founded by Viennese dancer Michael Kropf. Since Kropf was known as a ballet artist his ensemble was usually called to productions that in some way or form needed choreography that had something to do with ballet. The ice finally broke when The Hungarian State Opera House requested that the company perform the dance sequences within the performed operas, with “Bolero” as their first autonomous piece. When in May of 2005 the profession and the Lord Major recognized their success the ensemble finally took on the Budapest Ballet name to rightfully represent Hungary in the international dance scene. Especially held in high regard in France, Germany, Austria, South Korea and of course their home Hungary, the Budapest Ballet will continue to mesmerize their audience with their quality performances and ever-growing repertoire.
