Legendary Cuban singer Omara Portuonda known for unforgettable performances both solo and with Buena Vista Social Club and saxophone master David Murray, a leading authority in free jazz looking back on an extraordinary career spanning more than three decades, over 220 recordings and countless collaborations come together for this enchanting project presenting Nat King Cole sung in Spanish.
The main purpose of such a project is to enlighten the origins of a remarkable concept in order to re-create a new inspiration without betraying the original arrangements. The choice of giving the privilege to Omara Portuondo -celebrating her 80th year- to lend her voice to this repertoire is not totally insignificant. Indeed she did already sing for Nat King Cole in Havana in the 50’s. Her particular voice and David Murray’s saxophone will bring an original tone to this ambitious project which does not only intend to bring back the magic of the original albums but also to re-interpret while creating a new work that would pay a greater homage to the legacy left by Nat King Cole.
